Our History

Immanuel was founded in 1897 by a group of farming families, mostly of German ancestry.  We were a country church in Southern Minnesota surrounded by corn fields until the Synod asked us to move into the town of Fairmont after World War II.  The town was a mission field, and there was no church North of the railroad tracks to serve the people of the growing neighborhoods around George Lake.  In 1947 our current sanctuary was completed and the first services were held.

We Are…

a people committed to the mission of God since 1897.

We Value…

our town, neighborhood, and community.

We Serve…

a good and perfect God who loves us and has saved us by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.

What We Believe

God the Father Almighty:

We believe in a Personal, triune God who created the universe and sustains it by His power.

+ + +

The Lord Jesus Christ:

We believe in Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the Word of God made flesh for our salvation.

+ + +

The Holy Spirit:

We believe in the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Lord Jesus promised to His disciples. The Spirit descended upon the Church at Pentecost and dwells in the hearts of believers through faith.

+ + +

The Holy Christian Church:

We believe that the Christian Church on earth is the Body of Christ, sustained by the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

+ + +

The Communion of Saints:

We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; saints are therefore also sinners. Yet God has given us the aid of sacraments to support our journey.

+ + +

The Forgiveness of Sins:

We believe that Jesus Christ's perfect life, death on the cross, and resurrection from the dead have won salvation for us.

+ + +

The Resurrection of the Dead:

We believe that Jesus Christ will return at the last day and will resurrect all flesh.

+ + +

The Life Everlasting:

We believe that eternal life awaits those whom Christ has sanctified by His blood.
